Setting up a company in Latvia
Latvia attracts customers through one of the lowest tax rates in the European Union. The price level in Latvia is also lower than in Estonia or Finland, which makes it very attractive to set up a company. To start a business, it is necessary to register the business in the Trade Register of the Republic of Latvia. Only after registration does it become a legal entity. Registration is a relatively fast process, usually taking 2 to 4 days after the documents have been handed over. The most popular forms of business in Latvia are limited companies and subsidiaries.

Taxation
Income taxes and taxation of dividends
Corporate income tax is paid in Latvia on the payment of dividends, the distribution of profits or if the profits are used for purposes other than economic activities. The corporate tax rate is 20%.
Income taxes
If income does not exceed €20,004, TM is 20%, €20,005 – € 55,000- 23%, income of €55,000 and higher 31.4%. Equity income tax and return on equity are 20%.
VAT
The general VAT rate is 21%. The reduced 12% VAT rate applies to, among other things, baby food, medicines and books. VAT liability arises if the company’s annual turnover exceeds €40,000
Employer taxes The total social tax is 35.09%, of which the employer’s share is 24.09% and the employee’s share is 11%
Accounting
